Jennifer began her career in the Financial Services industry over 25 years ago as a fixed-income trader in a regional brokerage firm. This background paved the way for her to join a commercial bank where she managed personal trust accounts, institutional portfolios and a municipal bond mutual fund.
Jennifer transitioned from her career in banking to financial planning and investment advisory services in 1999 when she founded Summit Financial Planning, Inc., in Richmond, Virginia. From the beginning, she has offered Fee-Only advice to individuals and corporations.
Jennifer’s straightforward financial planning and investment philosophy emphasizes highly diversified portfolios, being faithful to regular savings contributions, and developing a strategy that clients can maintain over the long term.
Throughout her more than 20 years in the financial services industry, Jennifer has strived to increase her education and knowledge base. In1999, she earned her Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation, a high-level credential typically earned by institutional money managers. The next year, in 2000, she completed both her Masters of Business Administration from the University of Richmond and earned the prestigious CFP® designation, the gold standard in the industry for Financial Planning. Jennifer is a Certified College Planning Specialist, and a member of the National Association of Personal Financial Planners (NAPFA). A frequently quoted expert on financial matters, Jennifer was also a contributor to the 2008 publication, “Investing in an Uncertain Economy for Dummies.” She provided tip number 46.
In 2008, Jennifer was appointed to the board of The Community Tax Law Project (www.ctlp.org), a charitable organization that provides tax assistance to those who cannot afford to pay for these services. She serves as chair of their investment committee.
After living in many parts of the country, Jennifer settled in Richmond over 30 years ago. She and her husband Eric have been married for 23 years, have a 6 year old daughter and 3 “All American” breed dogs. Jennifer is passionate about her clients and her relationship with them. You can often hear Jennifer commenting that her clients are never far from her thoughts. Jennifer is an active member of her church and enjoys spending time with her family in the mountains of Virginia. She hopes to one day get back to a budding passion-scuba diving.

John retired from the Navy in 2012 after completing a 20 year career as a Naval Aviator. During his time in the Navy he served in many capacities to include: Mission Commander on the E-2C Hawkeye aircraft, Instructor at the Naval Strike and Air Warfare Center, Squadron Training Officer, Squadron Maintenance Officer, Air Wing Safety Officer, Unit Commanding Officer, Military Planning Instructor at the Joint Forces Staff College.
During a hiatus in his military career (1998-2000), John worked as a 401 (K) Mergers and Acquisition Conversion Specialist for the Vanguard Group and as a Six Sigma Black Belt for GE Transport International Pool/Modular Space (a GE Capital Company).
After completing his military career, John obtained his Insurance/Securities licenses. He joined Summit Financial Planning in 2012. John’s military leadership and planning experiences bring a unique perspective to the financial planning process.
John is originally from Wellsboro, Pennsylvania and has lived in Florida, Nevada, Georgia and Virginia during his military career. He has lived in Chesterfield Virginia since 2005. Most of his free time is spent with his sons Nathan, Robert and Allen. He serves as an adult leader of Boy Scout Troop 2822 and is a member of St. Matthews Episcopal Church in Chesterfield. He also enjoys hiking, skiing, riding motorcycles and hunting.

Sharon Kinter joined Summit Financial Planning in June 2010. She has a background in Accounting, Finance, and Human Resources. Sharon began her career as an Accounting and Financial Analyst for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Virginia (Anthem). Corporate restructuring transitioned her into a new career in the Human Resources department. Her new role as a Compensation Consultant was in Employee Compensation Planning where she later became a Certified Compensation Consultant through the nationally recognized organization “World at Work”.
In 1997, Sharon and her husband Kevin, both Richmond natives, moved to Chapel Hill, North Carolina where she held a job as a Compensation Consultant for the Swedish telecommunications company, Ericsson, Inc. In 1999, left Ericsson, and joined the International Pharmaceutical Company, GlaxoSmithKline, as an Executive Compensation and Benefits Consultant. In this role, Sharon consulted on GSK’s Executive Compensation and Benefits packages to ensure competiveness in both US and Global markets.
After taking a 9 year break from the paid working world to be a stay at home mother, Sharon rejoined the workforce in 2010. Sharon brings to the firm her passion for helping families achieve their financial goals through careful Financial Planning and Budgeting.
Sharon and her husband Kevin have 2 elementary aged boys and 2 dogs. Sharon is an active member of her church, enjoys yoga, bible study, reading historical fiction, camping and is always eager to learn something new. She brings with her great passion for the clients at Summit and their financial well-being.
